Cinema director Manoel de Oliveira
The exhibition of works of Manoel de Oliveira, one of the most famous Portuguese cinema directors who is one hundred years of age and is still creating actively, will be opened in Kaunas, at Vytautas Magnus University, at V. Biržiška Reading Room (K. Donelaičio Str. 52, 2nd floor) on the 8th of February at 3 p.m.
The exhibition organised at the initiative of the lecturer of Foreign Languages Centre Nuno Guimerães will be presented by the Portuguese Culture Centre Instituto Camỡes, and the ambassador of Portugal João Silva Leitão will participate in the opening.
M.Oliveira (b.1908) is the oldest cinema director who is still creating. His career started from silent films, such as “Work at the Dour River" (1931), and his latest work “Singularity of a Blond Girl" was presented recently (in 2009) in Berlin. M.Oliveira has created more than 50 films already. His works gained world recognition, which is proved by numerous awards granted in film festivals, institutes and academies.
Along with the opened exhibition, four films of M. de Oliveira will be shown during film evenings in February-March at Vytautas Magnus University. More about the screenings – on VMU website www.vdu.lt.
