The book “Submerged Klaipėda” of Jovita Saulėnienė and Rasa Tarik will be presented at Kaunas County Public Library (Radastų Str. 2, 4th floor lobby) on the 17th of March at 5 p.m. The exhibition of Vytautas Karaciejus photographs “Klaipėda: Signs of Existence” will also be opened.

The compiler of the book J.Saulėnienė, the head of the publishing house Druka Renata Būdvytienė and Juozas Šikšnelis, director of Klaipėda County Public I.Simonaitytė Library, prose writer, playwright and sculptor, will participate in the event. The graduate of Kaunas A.Kačanauskas Music School K.Staugaitytė will play the flute. The entrance is free of charge.

The book “Submerged Klaipėda” consists of material about the history of Klaipėda, called Memel earlier, the city development, lifestyle and feelings of townsmen of different caste and profession, famous architectural objects, traditions through the eyes of townsmen and famous people who visited it. The book may interest people researching the historical and cultural past of Klaipėda city.

The book is illustrated by works of earlier Klaipėda artists, old maps and other documentary material. The authors invite to take a glance at the cultural memory and to see how the past looks in the present day.

The photography exhibition of V.Karaciejus “Klaipėda: Signs of Existence“ will present the seaport, its change, growth and becoming modern during the last three decades from close. The author looks at the past with nostalgia. The exhibition will be open until the 14th of April.
