A. Kirvelytė. "Story of a Woman"

The exhibition of the cycle of paintings of Aistė Kirvelytė “Story of a Woman” will be opened in the Lithuanian Artists’ Union, Panevėžys Branch gallery XX (Laisvės Sq.7) on the 10th of March at 5 p.m.

The cycle of paintings was created in 2007-2009. It is formed of 14 works of large format that tell the story of a woman from the Soviet times, the times of the Movement and regained Independence to the present day in the style of a comic book.

A.Kirvelytė tells the story of a woman by repainting photographs from old newspapers and headings accompanying them. In this way the ironic story is created which lets one take a glance at the processes of social and cultural change in the society of Lithuania.

According to A.Kirvelytė, the entire cycle of “Story of a Woman“ will be exhibited at one time for the first time.

The exhibition will be open until the 1st of April.
