Extract from: Andriušytė-Žukienė, Rasa “Leonas Strioga: Creation with Love to Lithuania“, in: Dailė. 2002. No. 1. P. 56:
“Sculptures of Leonas Strioga are symbols of simplicity and sincere authentic creation in the background of present art. Usually these are small round or flattened wooden sculptures of human beings or animals (birds, horses, deer). They are not proud, dissociated, they are cosy and lovely, like the warmth of one’s home. The memory of meaningful artistic experience remains for a long time when one sees his works, and perhaps it is the reason why Leonas Strioga is one of the few artists of today whose exhibitions are willingly visited even people unrelated with art.
Even though the silhouettes of the majority of Leonas Strioga’s sculptures are covered by the mist of time, the surfaces are uneven, contours – melted, the whole reflects the most important idea of the sculptor, i.e. the idea of Lithuanian country-side based on the ethics of kindness and criteria of Christian morale.”
