In brief: The puppeteer Rimas Driežis evaluated by the Government’s Culture and Art Prize for merits to Lithuanian culture and art at the end of February states that this award is like the confirmation that the time has come to look at the puppet theatre as to the full-rate field of creation.

The conversation with R.Driežis lasting two hours does not seem to be long. The artist charmed by the puppet theatre from his childhood may tell about the favourite performances of the small theatre visitors “Three Piggies”, “Princess and Swineherd”, “Green Gander Theatre” and others without interruption. “Every puppet performance is not a tale about childhood, it is childhood itself”, the puppeteer smiles.

Everything related with the puppet theatre is interesting to R.Driežis: professional and amateur puppet theatre, reviews and theatre history. “I try to be active in all fields,” the interlocutor asserts.

When R.Driežis is asked whether life is lighter when working with colourful puppets, he responds: “Life is light to the one who loves his work”.

After organising the biggest festivals of the puppet theatre: the commemoration of the 100th anniversaries of the artist S.Ušinskas and director, founder of Lėlė Theatre B.Lukošius, the festival of the 50th anniversary of Lėlė Theatre, R.Driežis is presently preparing the monograph of B.Lukošius.

Speaking about the prize of LTL 44.2 granted by the Government, R.Driežis remembers the words of one winner of Oscar prize pronounced during the ceremony: “This moment is bigger than me”. R.Driežis evaluates the prize as the reward for diligence.
